Background Remover for Product Photos

Remove the background from a product photo and export a transparent PNG, right in your browser. The tool auto-detects the backdrop color from the corners and floods inward — perfect for shots on a white or solid-color sweep. No upload, no watermark, no signup.

1 · Upload a photo

2 · Sample the backdrop color

Auto-detected from corners

3 · Tune & remove

Raise tolerance if bits of the backdrop survive; lower it if the cut eats into the product.

Background too busy to remove?

Color-based removal needs a flat backdrop. If your shot is on grass, a tablecloth, or a textured scene, ShotKit can generate a clean studio photo from one upload instead — no backdrop to remove at all.

Why remove the background?

Marketplaces want the product, not the room it was shot in. Amazon requires the main listing image on a pure white square; Etsy and Shopify galleries look cleaner with a consistent cut-out; Pinterest pins with a transparent product composite-textured backgrounds get shared more. A clean cut-out also lets you drop the same product onto different scenes, colors, and ad creatives without re-shooting.

This tool gives you two levers. Auto-detect samples the four corners and uses the median backdrop color — right for the vast majority of product shots on a flat sweep. Pick color lets you click anywhere on the photo to sample the backdrop yourself, which matters when the corners are shadowed or the backdrop is off-center. The Tolerance slider controls how close a pixel must be to the backdrop color to count as background — raise it to eat more, lower it to protect the product.

Private by default

Unlike online background removers that ship your photos to a server and often keep them, everything here happens on an HTML canvas inside your own browser. Your product images — often a seller's most valuable asset — never touch a server, never get stored, and never get used to train someone else's model. Close the tab and the data is gone.

The output is always a transparent PNG, the only common format that preserves the alpha channel. Drop it straight onto your Amazon white square, your Etsy gallery, your Shopify hero, or a Pinterest pin — no visible box around the product. Need to shrink it for a marketplace limit afterward? Run it through the Image Compressor next.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove the background from a product photo for free?

Upload the photo, and the tool samples the color in each corner to detect the backdrop, then floods inward removing every pixel within your tolerance of that color — so a product shot on a white sweep turns into a cut-out on a transparent background in seconds. Drag the Tolerance slider up if bits of the backdrop survive, or down if the cut starts eating into the product. Nothing is uploaded; the entire removal runs on a canvas inside your browser.

What background does this work best on?

A flat, evenly-lit backdrop — white, gray, or a solid color — works best, because the remover compares each pixel to the sampled background color and removes the ones within tolerance. That covers the overwhelming majority of marketplace and studio product shots. Photos with busy, textured, or multi-color backgrounds (a product on grass, on a tablecloth) are not a good fit for color-based removal; for those, re-shoot on a plain backdrop or use ShotKit's AI generator to place the product on a clean studio scene.

What format should I export so the background stays transparent?

PNG. PNG is the only common format here that preserves transparency — JPG does not support an alpha channel, so a transparent cut-out saved as JPG will land on a flat (usually white or black) background instead. This tool always exports a transparent PNG so you can drop the product onto Amazon's white square, an Etsy gallery, a Shopify hero, or a Pinterest pin without a visible box around it.

Is this background remover free with no upload or watermark?

Yes. The remover runs entirely in your browser on an HTML canvas — your photo never leaves your device, there is no account to create, no server upload, and no watermark is added to the output. It is free for unlimited use on Amazon, Etsy, Shopify, Instagram, Pinterest, and email product images.

Need a clean scene instead of a cut-out?

ShotKit generates studio-quality product photos from one upload — place your product on a clean studio scene, no backdrop to remove.
